There’s an exciting event coming up pretty soon! More exciting than whatever tedious sporting championship normally happens around this time of year.

I’m talking about the February LACPS meeting!

When is it?Permalink

Saturday February 15, 2024 at 11:11 AM

Afterwards whoever wishes can join us as we run off to some local eatery for some nosh.

Entry fee, as always, is $4

Where will it be?Permalink

This time around we will be meeting at our Woodland Hills location…which is in the lovely western San Fernando Valley at 4501 Deseret Dr., Woodland Hills 91364. Enter the parking lot off of Deseret, don’t park on Mulholland, or it will be a long walk for you!

Check out the nifty graphic below to see how to enter the parking lot.

LACPS Woodland Hills, California meeting location

What to expectPermalink

For a measly $4 entrance fee, what can you expect?

  • Free Nepenthes seeds! Everyone who attends and supplies an address will be mailed one seed pod of Nepenthes (xrokko x veitchii)x(xrokko x veitchii) when the seed pods mature (assuming they still haven’t by meeting time). A very rare cross that should produce some interesting plants. Limit one pod per household, while supplies last!
  • nosh and drinks (including special, rare, limited edition Ale-8-One Peach and StrawMelon sodas for those early enough to snag one! A Kentucky favourite!)
  • A presentation on Sarracenia Repotting and Prophylaxis!
  • Interesting and quirky conversations on all sorts of subjects, not just Insectivorous Plants!
  • An open invitation to the traditional after meeting gathering at an as-yet-to-be-determined eatery for a late lunch (at participant’s own expense, natch!).
  • The opportunity to purchase some exclusive LACPS Swag for your very own! This includes the latest T-Shirt and VERY limited edition Baseball Cap.
  • Probably some other exciting things, too, that I can’t think of at the moment.
  • Hey, what else are you going to be doing that Saturday?

Yeah, I know it’s a bit cliche to do a presentation on Sarracenia repotting at this time of year, and if anyone out there would like to change it up and make a presentation of their own, please volunteer! Part of the mission of clubs like ours is to spread info and education, and the more people we got making presentations, the more knowledge gets shared!

Summer plant salePermalink

We’ll also be looking for someone(s) to hopefully participate in manning the LACPS sales booth at the annual SCCPE plant sale this coming summer. Normally held in June at the Sherman Gardens, a remodeling of the venue necessitated a change of place (to Costa Mesa) and time (July 12-13th weekend). This event has proven to be a great sales opportunity for participants, and a wonderful way to meet fellow carnivorous plant plerds and non-plerds alike. If anyone is interested, please talk to DJ at the meeting.

Sales and tradesPermalink

As usual, we encourage people to bring their Insectivorous Plant beauties to display, and if you got extras, bring them to sell or trade to other members. Maybe you can help some fill a hole in their collection!
